Miriam Patterson
Costume Designer/Head Costumer
Miriam Patterson is pleased to return for her 11th season at Opera in the Ozarks at Inspiration Point. Over the last decade, Miriam’s designs have been seen in a variety of operas on the Opera in the Ozarks stage, including Die Fledermaus, Little Women, La Boheme, Die Zauberflute, and many others.
Miriam earned a B.A. in Art History in 2000 and completed her M.F.A. in Theatre in 2004 at the University of Memphis. She then served as the Costume Shop Supervisor and a resident costume designer at Rhodes College in Memphis for six years, where many of her designs appeared on the McCoy Theatre stage, including those for Skin of Our Teeth, Twelfth Night and Urinetown, all of which were recognized with Ostrander Theatre Award nominations. In 2012, she was named the recipient of the Ostrander Theatre Award for the makeup design of Urinetown. Her costumes have also been featured in other Midsouth venues, including Germantown Community Theatre’s The Mystery of Irma Vep, Harvey, and The Complete Works of Shakespeare, Abridged, as well as Theatre Memphis’ Hamlet and Cloud Nine. She also has designed costumes for a number of opera productions in Memphis at the Rudi Scheidt School of Music, including Albert Herring, La Bohème, Christopher Sly, Don Giovanni and Suor Angelica.
In 2012, Miriam began teaching at Allegheny College in Meadville, Pa., where she serves as Costume Designer and Shop Manager at the Playshop Theatre. Most recently, her designs were seen in Anna in the Tropics and The Foreigner on the Playshop stage, where she also teaches courses in textiles, costuming and makeup design.
